[INTERVIEWS]
Interview with Erwin (Eternal Frost Webzine #11)
My first introduction to Last Days of Humanity was through their godly song "Intoxicated" on the second Razorback Records compilation. I quickly purchased the Hymns of Indigestible Suppuration CD from Billy at Razorback and was promptly and utterly blown away by the sheer brutality of the album! It's by far one of the best goregrind/grindcore releases this year and of all fucking time! Erwin de Wit (bass/vox) was kind enough to answer a set of questions I posed upon him. . .
Eternal Frost: Okay, why
don't we start off with a simple background on LDOH. You guys have released
a lot of stuff - how about giving a run-down of the band's discography?
Erwin: I'll keep this answer short because it's a fuckin' bore anyway.
For now, we've done two CDs on Bones Brigade (The Sound of Rancid
Juices Sloshing around Your Coffin and Hymns of Indigestible
Suppuration). We've also done five split sevens on different
labels. Our latest release is a split with Morgue on Evil Biker Records
and our split with Cock and Ball Torture on Fleshfeast Productions. In a
few months, our split with Sanity's Dawn will be released on Bones Brigade.
There is also a split 7" with Holland's masters in hatred and gore,
Stoma, planned early January 2001. Our line-up at the moment is Erwin (bass),
William (guitar/vocals) and Marc (drums/vocals).
Where did you find all the sick-ass pictures that adorn the CD's booklet??
Who's responsible for the layout and stuff for the CD?
We've taken most of the pictures from the internet, like everyone else
I guess. Sometimes we find some shit in some magazines, but most of the
time the internet will work out just fine. For our split CD with Sanity's
Dawn, lord porno Herr Sascha Pahlke of CBT will do the layout and the pictures
will be from the internet again, but they will be a little sicker this time.
You achieved a fucking godly production/sound on the new CD! Did it take
long to get everything set up and to record the album? Was the entire record
recorded in one day??
Uh. . .we aren't very happy with the sound [Blasphemy!!! --goden], but
we are never pleased with our sound after all is done. We always have a
problem with mixing and everything, so we have asked around for letting
someone else do this part for us. The set-up for the recording was done
in no time. The recordings were done in two days. Mixing also took two days
due to some problems.
"Defleshed by Flies" is one of the coolest goregrind songs
EVER!! What are your favorite songs from the new album? What are your favorites
to play live?
Dead Infection's Chapter of Accidents - all songs
are my favorites ever. None from us, but I for live [shows], I think "The
Ecstasy of Swallowing Torso Feces" would be my favorite (This song
is on our split 7" with Morgue). Also the songs on our split with Sanity's
DAwn are all in the vein of "Defleshed by Flies" split 7".
The best song from our latest record is "Reeking Mush beneath Each
Cavity" (I think!!).
To what bands would you credit the creation of goregrind? Who are your
current faves? The latest Reinfection and Sanity's Dawn CDs are bad-ass!
At this moment, I think Hippie Blood Bastards are god and Neuropathia
also kicks ass. I do like Sanity's Dawn a lot - you should hear their new
stuff. Reinfection's CD isn't my kind of music, but their demo fuckin' kills!!!
Machetazo is also god!!
LDOH has appeared on both of Razorback Records' compilation CDs. How
did you meet Billy Nocera? Has LDOH participated in a lot of comps? What
do you think of Razorback Records? It's one of my favorite labels right
now!
For both of Razorback Records' comp CDs, Nicolas (Bones Brigade) did
all the stuff for us. I've been in contact with Billy since we've done an
interview for his magazine [I Spit on Your Grave]. We also appear on the
Wizards of Gore: A Tribute to Impetigo CD on Razorback.
We covered "Revenge of the Scabbyman" in our own sickening way.
And, yes, Razorback is releasing a lot of sickness these days. Hail to him
and his girl!!
I was wondering what movies the samples on the CD are from? It sounds
like a couple are from Fulci's Zombie and Gates of Hell and another
is from Dr. Butcher, but I can't place the others. What are some
of your favorite gore/splatter flicks? Are there a lot of video stores that
rent out that stuff in your city?
Some intros are from Traces of Death and some other
movies - I can't remember them at this moment. There aren't many video stores
in my town where you can rent these movies (Fulci's and Argento's stuff
are easy to get). For more brutal stuff, you can go to bigger cities; there
you will find more stuff like Necromantik, Aftermath
and other stuff. But more sicker stuff I always buy in Germany. My favorite
videos are The Blood and the Blossom (Guinea
Pig series), Faces of Gore and Aftermath.
What can you tell me about where you live? Do you enjoy living in The
Netherlands? I wish America would adopt the drug laws you guys have. Do
you visit the "red light" districts? Have you ever been to America?
Legalize dope and there will be less problems. I've visited the red light
district in Amsterdam once, I think, but that was a long time ago. Every
city is a red light district. As long as there are bitches enough, why pay
for them? The place I live isn't big, but it isn't too bad to live here.
There are places enough to go out at night as long as you don't mind the
shitty music they play there. For the rest, it's okay.
Is the metal scene strong in your area? I know Rotterdamn, Holland has
a huge scene. Do you get many tours through your area? How often does LDOH
play live? How do the crowds respond? Do your shows get really crazy?
There are many shows in Holland, but in my area, there are only a few
places where metal bands can play once a year. In holland there aren't many
grindcore bands. The only ones I can mention are Stoma, My Mind's Mine,
Hippie Blood Bastards, Suppository and that's about it, I think. There are
also some death metal bands, but I ain't much into that shit. There are
a lot of hardcore bands and they fulfill almost all the shows around here.
In Rotterdam they have a place called "De Baroeg" and this is
one of the most famous places to play in Holland. LDOH plays about twice
a month, mostly in Holland, Belgium and Germany and about once a year in
France.
Hymns. . . is your second CD for Bones Brigade. How did
you hook up with them? Have they treated the band well? Are they promoting
LDOH heavily? Are there any plans to release either of your full-lengths
on vinyl? A gatefold LP version of Hymns. . . would
be totally putrid!!
We met Nicolas some years ago. Because Moonlight Records wasn't able
to release our first CD, Nicolas offered to do it. He has done a lot for
us over the years. He's been treating us really great - nothing but compliments
for what he's been doing for us. He's been very busy promoting LDOH, like
for the stuff on Razorback Records and some other compilation stuff he did
for us. He's been doing some French interviews for us. The only shitty thing
about this is that we can't read French, so we don't know what the fuck
he's been telling about us. We've been talking about putting the Hymns.
. . CD on vinyl but it's very expensive to release vinyl, so
it will take some more time before it will be out.
On the new release front, you're rumored to be doing a split CD with
Germany's goregrind gods Sanity's Dawn! Tell me about this? Who approached
whom about doing it? What label will be releasing it?
I met Christoph [guitarist of Sanity's Dawn] at a festival and we were
still looking for a band to do our split CD with. He told me that he had
some recordings that he could use, so we were very pleased to do this split
with them. Both bands are very pleased. Bones Brigade will release it (as
usual - this little scary alien is working his little butt off for us. .
. hahaha!!).
Why don't you wrap this up by telling people what all merchandise you
have available and what's in the works for LDOH in the coming months? When
can a third LP be expected? Thanks so much for doing this interview! Keep
on grinding!!
Well, here's a little list of shit we've got for sale:
The Sound of Rancid Juices. . . CD Hymns
of Indigestible. . . CD Hymns of Indigestible. . .
t-shirts $16ppd
For upcoming releases, just write or send me an email. Some stuff that will
be out soon is LDOH/CBT split 7", LDOH/Sanity's Dawn split CD, LDOH/Stoma
split 7". Watch out for our upcoming record on Bones Brigade sometime
next year and our split CD with NVE [??] also sometime next year. Thanks
a million times to you!
